PROMISED PROVISION MINISTRIES
COOPERATIVE VISION STATEMENT
OUR VISION: To profoundly impact the future of the lives of the people in Leogane, Haiti, through the establishment of a self-sustaining village that would provide for the Christian education, health, safety and well-being of its youth. The goal of this village is to provide the spiritual, physical and educational tools necessary for Haitian children to become productive, involved citizens and equip them to break the cycle of poverty in their city and country.
This would entail the acquisition of approximately 20 acres of land near the existing school/church. The current market price for a piece of property of this size is $95,000 - $110,000 U.S. dollars. The village would ultimately be staffed by native Haitians, including a lead pastor to oversee the progressive spiritual development of both staff and students. The land acquired will be selected according to its desirability based on several criteria:
Location – Safety and accessibility are of utmost concern. The children and staff who will reside in the village need to feel secure in their home and the children and staff who visit the school and other facilities at other times need to be able to reach it easily so as not to incur undue transportation hardships and costs. Location will also be important based on the availability of water and electricity.
Fertility – Another primary concern is that the land possess the qualities necessary to produce healthy, safe food for the students and staff of the village as well as additional food that could be sold at market. It is hoped that this would eventually eliminate the amount of money now spent to ship food items and create income for the village.
Your heartfelt gifts will allow our VISION FOR THE VILLAGE to become a reality. We have already been blessed with the vision and are waiting for those God is calling to provide for it to step forward. Just think…
Church: A place of worship that would be available to the residents of the village 24 hours per day, seven days per week for prayer and praise. In addition to Sunday service(s) and baptisms, on-going activities such as Bible studies (youth and adult), pastoral training courses, and fellowship activities would be scheduled to meet the spiritual needs of those who seek God in this place. The church would be the heart of the village and made available for weddings, funerals, fellowship activities, etc.
School: A modest, clean building to house approximately 15 classrooms, a staff office, a school supply storage area, and restrooms that will accommodate 500-600 children (to include children who reside in the village dormitories and additional impoverished children from the city of Leogane). A well-trained staff will be provided in-service and continuing education courses designed to increase their abilities to provide first-class Christian education to the children in their care.
Dormitories: Housing for approximately 200 children. Each room to house 4 children (two sets of bunk beds per room) with a communal bathroom/shower area on each floor. A gathering room on each floor to provide a place for the children to play and share time together while a separate “Quiet Room” on each floor will provide the perfect place to read and study. Structured time for Bible study and life-skills training would be built in to the childrens’ schedules.
Social Services Center: A gathering place that will serve many needs for the village as well as a place in which to host community outreach:
- house an indoor kitchen with running water and electricity
- house a cafeteria area large enough to seat approximately 250 children per seating
- house a small, outpatient medical clinic
- house a laundry room complete with electric washers and dryers
- house a physical education area with recreational areas such as a basketball court, a sports field and a playground area that will enable the children to develop physically strong, healthy bodies as well as to simply enjoy being children at play
- house a meeting space in which to fellowship and conduct community outreach:
-
Life enhancement courses/seminars: purity seminars for teens, pre-marital courses, marriage and family seminars, etc.
- Life skills classes: basic hygiene seminars, parenting courses, housekeeping courses, English language classes for all ages, college admissions information seminars (how to apply for college admission, how to research financial aid opportunities, etc.), employment preparation courses (how to prepare a resume, how to interview well, etc.)
Vocational Training Center: A variety of vocational training programs can be offered so that students may master skills necessary to meet many of the needs of the village as well as to obtain marketable, income producing skills to prosper their individual futures. Plans for a carpentry shop and a sewing center are already being developed so the teens can produce such items as furniture and clothing for the residents of the village and for sale at market. Once these programs are fully implemented, they will begin to produce income for the village and shipping costs now incurred for transporting these necessary items will be drastically reduced and, it is hoped, eventually eliminated altogether. The skills mastered in the village will translate into the students’ abilities to enter into adulthood able to earn decent wages and break the cycle of poverty within their city. A living legacy and testament to the glory of God!
Agricultural/Husbandry Center: We pray that this area of the village will prove to be the key to success in producing a self-sustainable source of food as well as income for the village. Additionally, the skills acquired through the raising of crops and animals will provide the students with skills that we hope will ease their transition into adult life and their abilities to adequately provide for their families and earn a livable income. Volunteers are currently researching the most efficient, cost effective and healthy methods presently available in these fields so the methods taught will be modern and constitute good stewardship of financial and physical resources.
WE INVITE YOU TO PARTNER WITH US IN BRINGING GLORY TO GOD IN HAITI: God has given us this vision for a safe, productive place that will bring glory to Him through provision to “the least of these”, bestowing on them the God-given dignity of being self-supporting. That glory will shine bright for all to see in its many aspects as this village stands as a beckon of hope and prayers fulfilled. We would be honored to have you partner with us in fulfilling God’s promise to provide for His children in Haiti. You may share your blessings with “Promised Provision Ministries” by mail to P.O.
