Father passed, Mother living. 1 brother, 1 sister.
Life before Christian Girls Home:
Joanna’s life has been a struggle since she was one month old and her father died. Without a husband, her mother could not find the means to support her children. Joanna frequently experienced hunger and could not afford tuition for school. Her poverty is recalled in missing school because there was no money for tuition, clothing or shoes.
Favorite Bible verse: 1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Life in the Christian Girls Home:
Joanna finds it hard to put into words all the changes she is experiencing since moving into the girls’ home. She is quick to acknowledge that one of the biggest changes is her knowledge of God and her relationship with the other girls as sisters in Christ. She feels much closer to God now that she prays daily and attends church regularly. She is grateful for the physical things the home provides like steady meals, good clothes, a nice bed, water for showers and transportation to school.
Joanna is strength defined. She amazed us with her ability to lift heavy objects with the greatest of ease. She survived such hardship, yet retains an incredibly joyful, fun loving outlook on life. She is hope, faith and love.
