January 14, 2010 - Earthquake Update 2
We just received word that Pastor Joseph is safe and he is at his home with his son and many of their neighbors. Roody confirmed that Pastor’s home has, in fact, collapsed but many people have gathered at his home so at least they have some sense of community. His exact words were, "The buildings have fallen but everyone within our circle is OK -- Darline is here with me and she is OK".
Again, he did not have time to elaborate so we don't know if by "our circle" he meant the school staff and our teenagers or just his Dad, Darline and their neighbors.
We were only able to speak for about 45 seconds so I could not inqiure about the condition of the church and school -- they may not have even been able to get to them to see how they fared yet since those buildings are about five miles down the road from Pastor's house.
Still no word about their situation as far as food and water are concerned, but Roody kept saying "There is nothing you can do right now" so I know they do not wish for us to feel guilty in our feelings of helplessness. Hopefully, as communications become more readily available we can get an assessment of exactly how we can best help them from here.
Praising God through our circumstances and for His grace and mercy on our loved ones, we hold up in prayers all of the other people affected by this tragedy and their families who have either received bad news or none at all about their loved ones.
Thank you for being part of "our circle" of friends. We value your friendship and your prayers more than words can express.
