Roody was so happy when he called tonight. He just kept saying how God has blessed him through Promised Provision. He said he felt he had had a very successful day. His is so funny – he says he spent the day with “a real missionary”, Clay Corrigan from Port-au-Prince (who does have a vehicle). The fact that he doesn’t view himself as a “real missionary” just cracks us up. Whenever someone pulls into the camps with a truck, it is immediately swamped by people trying to get something – even if they do not know what you have. Clay suggested to Roody that future deliveries be made by our teenagers. His idea is to have our kids carry a backpack filled with cans of formula, enter the camp on foot, and visit each of their assigned mothers/infants. This will eliminate the riot caused by taking in a vehicle, allow our teens to pray with and for each mother and baby individually and share Jesus with them while giving them what He has provided for their child. WHAT A FABULOUS IDEA!!! God’s provision of spiritual food along with physical food AND a marvelous opportunity for our youth to serve and to grow in their walks with the Lord – you gotta love it!
Meanwhile, our own little logistics planner, Susan, has been burning up the internet and phones coordinating everything from formula donations, information about helping the Haitian women restart lactation, helping other relief organizations secure collection sites in Florida for tents and other relief items, pricing shipping options and making shipping arrangements for pallets of formula, coordinating with other missions groups to bring about cohesive collective efforts for distribution of donations to those most in need, etc. etc. etc. When God wants to “get ‘er done”, He calls on Susan! Honorable Mention goes out to the following amazing people: Our prayer partners and financial supporters – all of those who have spent their quiet times on their knees before the Lord or have generously shared their financial blessings on behalf of this ministry, its missionaries, and those we serve. We cherish you and could not do any of this without you. Kristen S. in Ohio, a stay-at-home mom who has been feeding small snacks to her children to keep them quiet while she works to garner public and media awareness of our plight to move baby formula into the Leogane area. She and our Susan are going to be bonded for life before this is all over. Susan G. in Idaho, who provided for missionary Clay Corrigan to purchase formula in the Dominican Republic for delivery to Roody so they could distribute it together – finally, extra hands for Roody! Nadege A. in California, who is working within her group of family members and friends to help injured people overlooked by the large aid organizations. She heard Roody’s story on American Public Radio (http://thestory.org/archive/the_story_965_Roody_Joseph.mp3/view) and decided to embrace the overlooked infants by joining forces with us to bring awareness of their plight and our efforts to alleviate their suffering. We are thrilled to be developing a friendship with this compassionate, determined woman. Clay Corrigan, a missionary from Port-au-Prince who met Roody today with a BIG load of formula and other items for babies and children. He has a vehicle!! So together they visited three camps and distributed formula, diapers (thanks to Officer Billy of the U.S. Air Force and Officer Robert of the U.S. Navy), fortified peanut butter, and stuffed animals to over 500 infants and children. WOW!! Not a bad day’s work! You just have to wonder what God had in store for all of us tomorrow…Goodnight.
